Hi. Does anyone know if it's possible to make a Circut mat sticky again? The one I have isn't all that old and just doesn't stick as well as it should.  I hate to purchase a new one if there is a way to restore the stick.  Thanks!

Try using a lint roller on it. Sometimes it extends the life. I learned this from a class I took. It seems to remove some of the built up fibers from the mat. Good Luck. Hope this helps.
I spray goo gone on it, let it sit for a bit and then wash it off with soap and water. Once it's clean and dry, then I lightly spray it with a spray adhesive. Seems to work fine.
This is how I did it and it was amazing how long it stayed sticky. First, I ran the lint roller over it, then I applied glue to it. I used a Zig two-way wide glue pen. Really let it dry- overbight is best. If you don't let it dry very thoroughly, it can stick to the clear protective sheet. You'll be pleased with how well this works.
I clean mine throughly with a baby wipe to remove lint. Then I tape my mat to newspapers and spray the surface with Quilters Basting Spray (which I found at Wal-Mart). Make sure the tape covers all edges outside of the cutting areas otherwise the spray could mess up your rollers. Let the mat dry for several hours. I have used the method over and over on the same mat. You should be aware that if you could be voiding your warranty by using any of these methods, so be sure to know when your warranty has expired before attempting.....
I tried washing the mat with a weak detergent and warm water solution to remove all the bits that had stuck to the mat. Blot it with a paper towel to remove most of the water then let it dry. If the mat has not been used too many times, this may help get the stick back for a bit. If the stick has gone completely, you could try painting the clean mat with a tacky glue used for basting fabrics. It works quite well and stays sticky for quite a few cuts. You can do this over and over until the mat actually wears out or cracks from repeated use. Good luck
I have a Silhouette cutting machine - I use Crafters Companion 'Stick and Spray' which is a respositional adhesive on it... I just reapply as necessary... I've never changed my mat since I bought the machine two years ago... granted I don't use it everyday, but it works when I do use it.

Hope that helps.

I have found that I can use baby wipes to clean off the fuzzy bits of paper and it will be sticky again for a while. I also saw information about items you can order from here that will extend the life of your mat. Here is the web address if you want to check it out. http://crafterscompanion.com/
Hi all ................. I use Fast Orange on my mat. It was my husbands idea. We took my oldest mat , put a tablespoon of fast orange on and worked it in with your fingers.... you can feel the globs of stuff under your fingers. Rinse well , let dry and my mats are like brand new. Fast Orange is a hand cleaner that is used by people that work with car grease and such.On a side note i use baby wipes when doing small projects.
Many many thanks to everyone for the replies...thank you for getting me into a "sticky" situation! :-)
I used 2-way glue, the kind that if you let it dry, it becomes self sticking. I used a large tip one, it was easier to cover the mat surface. Just leave the mat in a safe place so that you don't get anything stuck to it while it is drying. About 20 minutes later (after the glue dried) my mat was working great.
Yes, I do it. I use 1 tbp Aleens tack it over and over to 1 tbsp of water, mix well
using a foam brush, wipe up and down til covered. Not to thick tho. Then go across
and let dry completely before using. Oh, forgot use either a baby wipe to clean your
mat before applying new glue to it. Works like a charm.

Ok, do I feel silly..... I never even thought about trying to get the "stick" back. I thought that once the stick was gone, you had to get a new one. Glad that I read this thread!!! Thanks!
