If you cut a lot with it they wear out fast. That can't be helped.
You should always keep the plastic on them when not in use or the dry out.
Ju;ie, I realize thie was written nearly a year ago, but in case it ever happens again, I use Krylon's Easy Tack on my Silhouette mat and my Slice glass mat and it makes it stick really easily. Just a light spray and if i's too sticky, run a T-shirt over it to help.
Oh yes...... Crafters Companion makes two products for exactly this problem. One cleans off old residue, and other puts on a new tacky surface. Quick and easy, and really lasts ! Check out their website !
I have started making my own mats. Use quilters template plastic, cut to the size of your cricut or silhouette mat. Use masking tape down each side about 1/4 inch where the rollers pull the mat thru and spray with tacky, repositionable glue. Remove the tape and you have a new mat for just a couple dollars. I have saved a fortune.
