Many people do not think of themselves as creative. But creativity, like most things, takes practice. It also involves letting the mind free and letting the spirit be open to taking chances.
Following are some tips of becoming a more creative or artsy person.
Start Noticing What You Like
Often people who say they are not creative can see a flower arrangement, a room layout, or an art project and know what they like and what they don't. If you notice something you believe to be pleasant, spend some time looking at and noticing they style, colors, textures and such involved. Think of what you might change if you had the chance. Practicing looking at things in a new way can open your mind to possibilities to the creative process.
Let Creativity Loose with Art and Play Like a Child
Pick a few craft supplies (acrylic paints, fabrics, or items from nature, for instance) and just play with them. Mix colors and don't worry about making things look "real" in paintings and such. Make designs that are pleasant to your own eye and your own heart. Put on music to enact the right side of your brain (the creative side). Play with glue and don't concern yourself with the outcome. If you don't like it, take it apart or start over. Try new things several days a week.
