This is the million dollar question!  Once you perfect it, your knots will always look flat and perfect.

Video on my website

Step 1: The very first thing you need to do is put adhesive along the top and the bottom of the layer you are tying a ribbon around.  I do not put adhesive on my ribbon so that I can slide it back and forth to position my ribbon exactly where I want it while I’m tying the ribbon.

Step 2: Next, bring your left ribbon around and under the right ribbon.  As you can see in the video, the right ribbon which is on top is actually twisted so that the opposite side of the ribbon is showing.  This helps make it flat in the center to start your knot.

Step 3: Now, take the top piece and make it into a “hill”.  This hill will stay still for the next step, just hold it in place!

Step 4: Take the ribbon that was on the bottom from step 3 and bring it up and around and through the “hill”…remember, don’t move the hill!  Then, take the end of the ribbon on the left in the photo below and pull it to tighten the knot.  Make sure you hold the end of the ribbon on the right perfectly still…don’t pull that one now!

Step 5:  As you are completing your knot, do it slowly and adjust it as you are tightening!  I usually flatten the middle as I am tightening.
