versa mark

i am having problems using versa mark on a plastic stencil (or a plastic template). The stencil is of leaves, so i am doing a fall theme. But the middle part of the stencil does not seem to get a lot of the versa mark on it. I am thinking of using a brayer (need to go buy it) but i am not sure it will work. Has anyone used a brayer with versa mark? What kind of results did you get? Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?
