Has anyone other than me noticed that gallery after gallery contains mostly cutesy cards; i.e, little cretin people without mouths, fairies, stick people with exaggerated long legs, kids with huge eyes.  Are all the stamp companies concentrating on these unsophisticated images?

And I offer a biweekly Clean & Simple Challenge that doesn't have any "cute" requirements.

Cathie - No specific brand of stamp is required.  And yes, you can use a combination of stamped images and clip art.  And yes, you can use an embellishment as one of the design elements.  The only requirement is that the finished card resemble the sketch...it can be a loose interpretation of it though.  Looking forward to seeing what you create!
thank you for mentioning this.  I thought it was just me.

I agree wholeheartedly.  There are times I love "cutesy", but other times I want more "artsy", classical stuff.  And those are hard to find sometimes without some person with wings or out-of-scale heads, etc.  Hopefully, more classical-looking stuff will come back into vogue one of these days, so at least it will be more balanced than it is now.  I have plenty of "cute" stamps, and love them, but also many that are not in that category that I can use for cards for more serious topics.  I stopped subscribing to one card-making magazine that once had had beautiful very artistic creations and focused on the more complicated artist techniques, but they have switched entirely to the above-mentioned styles.  It would be nice if we had at least one magazine and one or two companies that still had that as its focus.

Wow!  I thought it was just me!! :D

"Cutesy" is ok once in a while but it seems to be everywhere at the moment.  I'm with you ladies, "artsy" is so much nicer.  I've even found that a few of the stamps I've seen are just a little "adult" for my taste - or is that just me?  There's no way I'd be using them on my cards!

Hi Kathy!  I totally agree with you about the 'edgier' images not being for me either but that's what is so great about this craft, there's something for everyone!  Meanwhile, see you over on Anything But Cute!  You might also check out All Things Vintage, another group I moderate with two other gals.
