Paper Craft Planet

Paper Crafting, Rubber Stamping, Scrapbooking, and more

My question is a little different from the one Tanya asked as she wants to know about
setting up a blog. I have a blog set up but don't know what to write on it.  My link is
http://jackieskg.blogspot.com/     I am a card maker and thought it would be a good
place to show off my cards, but I would also like to put info about other blogs and
make it a helpful site.  Hopefully in the future I will be able to make digis or
background papers to give out to people, just as so many other people have helped
me.

I thought also that I could add challenges from the groups that I belong to on PCP.

How did you other crafters go about making such a blog? Any advice will be
appreciated.

HI Jackie,
I will check out your blog after writing this.
To add other blogs you can go to gadgets and add other blogs. I prefer to go to pictures and add photos of their blog buttons and then add their URL. For example I have a blog button up for "grabs" on my blog, where others can "grab" it and then put it on their blogs.
As far as what to post, I suggest just being you!
Add your photos and perhaps list the supplies you used. In the area underneath you can type a title in labels and then it will post it automatically in your archives.
My blog is http://www.snowmanlover.blogspot.com if you would like to see.

Dear Barbara,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me. I took a look at your blog, which is very nice
and interactive. I just won a digi image in a blog hop, so perhaps I will start off from that. Supplies
I rarely buy here but get from the US. Your blog button up for "grabs" sounds good. Anyway thanks
again for your great input.
Oh Jackie, you are so very welcome! Congrats on winning the digi image. How exciting! Sure you may "grab' my blog button. It is up for grabs!!
Well I have my blog up and running now and
my advice is - just do it! I'm also enjoying doing
it - I still need to add to it as I'd like it to be
interactive.

I have a blog  - http://coachhousecraftingonabudget.blogspot.com/ - but it's currently more about furniture revival and christmas crafts.

I've taken an 8 year break from paper crafts because until recently I just didn't have the room. Now I have heaps of it but papercrafts have changed alot in the last 8 years so all my stuff is outdated. lol.

I often feature other blogs on my blog. I title it 'Wotcha Wednesday' and each Wednesday I feature and link to a few blogs that either I follow or follow me or that simply inspire me. These vary too from papercraft blogs to furniture blogs. I then include a few photos from the featured blogs and a little about the site. It's a great way to get people looking at your blog (just remember to tell people you've featured them lol).

You could also design a 'featured at' button if you haven't already and many bloggers will grab it and put it on their own blogs when you've featured them.

If you are hoping to sell things later on then you need to get plenty of traffic to your blog and this is where I struggle. It seems to take more time that I have lol.  Visiting other blogs and leaving comments is a great way as is joining in on challenges and blogging your entry with links to the challenge.  You could join Blogfrog community if you haven't already and also something like Triberr where your blog will be tweeted daily.

Peoplelove tutorials so take piccies as you make your cards and let everyone know how you did it.

Blogging is honestly a minefield and so confusing sometimes especially if you're wanting traffic. It seems photos all need to be labelled correctly so that SE bring them up and everything tagged.

Hope that helps a bit but I'm a newbie too. lol.

I currently have 2 blogs: http://craftymariasstampingworld.blogspot.com and http://simplycardsbymaria.blogspot.com  Do I need to start another blog for this site?  I'm a newbie to this site as of yesterday.

Hi Maria, You don't have to start another blog on this site. When

you add photos to your page, people can be directed there to read

about you. On this page you can add whatever info about yourself

that you like.  Hope this helps.

Linda, thank you so much for your info - which I have only just seen.

You have given me some useful ideas.  I now have 20 followers and over

3,600 views, which isn't too bad.  I do occasionally show how I make my

cards and also give out some freebies (sentiments, Valentine papers).

I agree that a lot of time has to be spent getting people to your blog

and for this I like to take part in challenges - the winners are chosen

randomly, which I really prefer, as so many people make such lovely

cards it would be very difficult to say which is the best. You say that

a lot of your stuff is outdated - so why don't you just 'change' it and

make new cards?  For a newbie, you know quite a lot! Good luck.
