Paper Crafting, Rubber Stamping, Scrapbooking, and more

Welcome to this week's 3d Tuesday challenge!  Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, so I designed a fun slide top box that holds 4 pencils as an alternative to all of the sweet treats that are shared at this time of year. As a kindergarten teacher, I was always thrilled when students brought in treat packages that contained something other than candy! I found really cute packages of Valentine’s Day themed pencils in the dollar sections of both Target and Michaels recently that served as the inspiration for my project. I suppose this box would fit Pixie Stix, but I didn’t have any on hand to try out, so I can’t confirm that.

The box template is actually pretty simple. It takes 1 piece of cardstock to make both the box and box top. I modified the slide top box I had made to hold tealights to come up with this one. The scores are all in ½” or 1” increments. You can find the dimensions and cutting directions in the attachment at the bottom of this post.

My box and box top are made from Raspberry Fizz cardstock. For the decorated panel on the box top, I stamped the heart image from Papertrey Ink’s Tiny Treats: Valentine randomly on a white strip in red ink. You could use a piece of patterned paper for this if you wanted. The stamped panel is layered on a red mat and attached to the box top.

I tied a piece of matching dotted satin ribbon around the box, then created a tag to hang from the ribbon. I stamped the cute pencil and paper image and matching sentiment on a tag and colored it with Copic markers. The tiny heart is accented with Stickles.

I hope you’ll give this treat idea a try--I have a feeling that your kids' teachers will thank you! Please upload your pencil boxes to the PCP gallery using the keyword 3d47 so I can add them to the album with the rest of this week’s creations. And, let me know if you come up with other ideas for treats to fill the box!

Materials Used:
Tiny Treats: Valentine stamp set, Pure Poppy ink, Pure Poppy and Raspberry Fizz cardstock, Raspberry Fizz Swiss dot satin ribbon (Papertrey Ink); Tuxedo Black ink (Memento); markers (Copic); Whisper White cardstock, silver

So cute Lori! Fun idea! I think jewelry could fit in there too!
great tutorial!
This would be cute for a kids class Valentine. So sweet, Lori!
What a perfect gift - just in time for Valentine's Day - a few chocolates can fit in this box!!!
I would love to join this group and have fallen completely in love with this box, its FABBBBB - was only thinking a couple of moments ago that I would like to try something different tonight, other than card making and making earrings, so will have to give this a bash - where can I post a copy of what I make :)
Hi Angel! Welcome to the 3D challenge group! When you're ready to post a photo of your completed pencil box, you can follow this step by step tutorial to upload your photo to the PCP gallery. Be sure to add the keyword 3d47 so I can add it to the album with the rest of this week's projects. I'm looking forward to seeing what you create using the template.
I had to give this box a try, and it was very fun to make. I am keeping the pattern for these so that I can do this for Mother's day and put the tea lights in it instead of the pencils. Thanks for a great challenge. The paper and heart are from SEI, the flouish is a sizzix die cut, and I am so not sure of who the little stamp is by. TFL

My post seems to have disappeared..i had asked about the stamped candles for the slide box.
Are they just for decoration?. i was wondering about the burning part.tfs any info..loves ya
Hi Gail! I've had success in burning them safely. They burn from the center down. I also used pretty inexpensive tissue paper, so I don't know if that had some effect on the burning. Hope this helps!
ty so much for your reply lori..and for the tut's..love them..loves ya
I just joined the group, I really like 3- stuff as well as greeting cards. This looks like a really neat project, as I have 1 granddaughter that doesn't have much of a sweet tooth. The candle idea I'm going to use for my girlfriend. I just need to quit surfing so much, and get down to crafting. I must say you all have my creative juices flowing with all of your projects and ideas.
