The first in our series of working together using the same image is here! To grab the image, just right click and press 'save image as' which will allow you to save it to your computer. I did leave it at 100% size as I don't know what photo editing you have. If it is too big, just let me know and I'll help you downsize it.
The story behind this postcard is that I purchased it from a favorite little flea market right here in my town! Unfortunately, the date is faded and I can't tell what year this is from. Here's my take on creating a card with it:
Here's some ideas to achieve a vintage look to this postcard. First, choose papers that you like and decide what is going to be the card and what are the layering pieces. The papers I used were from the Peppermint Collection by Crate Paper and even though they were geared for Christmas, I was able to find patterns and colors that would work with the birds.
I didn't get too fussy putting the card together (didn't want to scare you the first week!) and just layered the postcard with the red panel and dissected it with a brown strip and seam binding. The kit had scallop stickers that seemed to fill in a plain edge. (Actually, I had edge distressed the red panel but found I liked the scallop strips better.) The brown lace was added first underneath the inside card front. Having added the sticker scallops, I almost didn't need the brown lace, but it was stuck on there already, soooooo it stayed!
The fun part was finishing the postcard to look old. I did this by edge distressing all four sides to get that fuzzy rough appearance and then taking Antique Linen Distress ink and a blending pad and staining the edges. Then I took Vintage Photo Distress ink and added color to the rough edges to create a little more depth. I made tiny rips here and there and made sure to color them with the Vintage Photo as well. Curl some corners too. I added glitter snow to the branches using a Quickie Glue Pen and then affixed it to the card front.
Added little tricks were to wet my hands with water and get the ribbon bow and tails wet and scrunch the heck out of it. Sometimes I do this to the ribbon before it's on the card, but this is also a nice option. I added a couple of pretty pins and it's done!
Okay, now it's your turn! Create a card using the postcard image and design it any way you wish. You may certainly follow my card or go out on your own! Be sure to tag it ATVJan1 (exactly as typed) so we can start a slideshow. Be sure to post a comment when you upload a card.

Permalink Reply by Diana Lee Hammond on January 1, 2012 at 5:05am I am going to try this. How long do I have to get it done and posted. I am some times slow. Do we have the size of the card or is that up to us?
Thanks
Diana
Permalink Reply by Lyn Bernatovich on January 1, 2012 at 9:28am The card size is 5-1/2x4-14 inches, but you can make it any size. There's really no deadline to post a card, we'll just keep adding our designs as they come in.
