Introduction to 2012 Vintage Mini Album

Happy New year to you all.

I am so happy for the opportunity Lyn has given me to invite you all to join me in 2012 on All things Vintage.

My aim is to assist you in making a Vintage Mini Album. Once youve made your front and back pages you will fill your album each month with Friendship pages. Friendship pages are pages made for you by your partner and will have information about your partner as part of the contents.

Your Vintage Mini Album will become a great keepsake which, you can look at from time to time and admire the pages and read the info on the pages, made especially for you by people you have become friendly with here on All Things Vintage.

We will be learning about Vintage cards from Lyn and will be able to include what we learn into our Mini Album. I will be giving you instructions each month for making the Friendship pages that we will eventualy swap with a partner.Your aim will be to collect pages from a different person each month.

Your album will be 6x6 and and we will learn how to make different styles of pages using a 12 x12 sheet of card. here is a list of materials you will require during the next 6 months of challenges

For the back and front of Album 2 6x6 cardstock

2 medium sized rings To join the pages together. This way there is no need for binding.

Glue or double sided tape. I prefer not to use these double sided tape runners. They dont keep your items stuck together for long and if we want to be able to turn the pages often, it needs to be put together with strong adhesive. I lik to use PVA glue to stick my pages together and a gel Glue to add embelishment which is also good for adding that 3d look or you may use 3d pads..

A glue gun or a glue gel for adding embelishment

Seam binding, which looks good once soaked in water and scrunched in your hand, pearls or/and gems, lace and any other embelishmeants you have in your stash. You will also need distressed ink pads to create age on the edges of your pages. I use Tim Holtz Distress ink, Vintage Linen but we will learn more about that as we go along.

For the pages you will need 12x12 card, double side is preferable but dont worry if you dont have it single side will work but with the need to decorate any reverse side that shows. Try to use a paper with a vintage look and not strong bright colours. We will be learning different techniques for folding the 12x12 pages to make a selection of 6x6 pages with pockets and room for tags and journals.

Beads and charms,silver or gold or antique look chains. Gold antique looks good for a Vintage style or you might wish to use jewelry wire to add a dangle to your embelishmeants. We will also be using beaded pins.

You can add a Vintage image. We will put what we learn from Lyn into our album pages. Lyn will be informing us where to find free Vintage images.

I will also be suggesting videos on You Tube that you can watch and play over and over till you can make whats being asked for each month. these are good, short, step by step videos made by carfters for crafters. I would like you to post a photo of your album and pages each month and i will set up a slide show. We can also chat through a challenge to help each other or simple to keep in touch

All righty then I am going to try this and see what I get into. You all might get a good giggle out of this and that is ok cause I am all ready lost. I do have a question on the glue. What is the full name of it. I have lived my whole life with tape and roll out stick um. Glue will be fun. I am not sure I have ever used it. Also when will this start because I have to go get the rings and a couple other things you mentioned I don't have. I can't believe that with all the stuff I have but it's true. If we don't get snow tonight I can go in the afternoon and get it. But I am going to get the stuff so I can play too.And Sandy I know you are laughing your you know what off and you better be nice. I am a beginner.

Hi Diana I am so happy that you wish to join us. This discussion is just an itroduction to use as a guide and prepare yourself in advance. Please don't worry about a thing. Most of us including myself are new to the Vintage style and we are all here to help each other There will be people with experince signing up and I am sure they will help us all.

I suggest you look in on Lyns January challenge. Lyn is the expert here and she posts a lesson every month. She usualy makes Vintage cards and will provide Vintage photos you can use in your creations. There is an excellent sight called Majic Moonlight which gives lots of free images.

All you have to do to sign up is go to my discussion called Vintage Mini Album. Just click the words above that say back to discussions and youll see my heading there. Just say that you wish to sign up and I will add you to my list. This is also the place where you can ask any of the other members for advice on what and where to buy what you need. I come from Sotland so I dont think the items I use will be the same as in your part of the world but there are plenty people willing to help you.
