One Border Punch: 4 ways

You have a lot of punches sitting in your craft closet, and truthfully, if you're husband knew how much they cost and how often they sat collecting dust, he'd probably have a stroke. Well, here's some inspiration to help you break those punches back out and get your creative jig on.

Using just one punch, we're going to:
border punch around a page

Punch around a page....

border punch decorative elements
Well, make a border. You probably guessed that one.... and create a double sided element that can work as a basket handle, decorative strip or whatever

border punch tags

Create some tags...

And, we'll even talk a little about creating flowers and frames!

Here's what you need to get started:

  • a border punch (I used the Martha Stewart "Deep Edge Daisy" punch, but any will work)
  • paper
  • a ruler
  • a pencil

I really like getting extra ways of using 1 punch

Marjeta this is so pretty. I love the trim on the envelope and how you used the flowery punch on the card.

Thank you Suzanna. I really enjoyed making the basket.

Thank you Juddie.  Pictures never do things like this justice.  The paper is embossed and some glitter effects on the flowers and leaves.   The paper is from Best Creations, one of my favorite companies.

Very pretty!  Love the paper & colors.

Yippie I got my basket made this weekend. It took one strip for the handle, but two one sided strips for the edging. I really love how the basket turned out. And have gotten a lot of complements on it at work today. Thanks again Susanna for a fun project.

One of the most helpful and well-done tutorials I've watched in a lloooonnnnggggggg time.  I will be gathering all my decorative punches and playing.  Even the math was easy!!  So glad someone figured it out and took the time to share.

Jane, I took a strip about 2" x 12" and punched all the way down one side.  The part that was "plain" or unpunched or whatever, I taped that to the inside of the box all the way around.  I tried to hide where the edges met up behind the handle.  Does that make sense?

Comment by Jane Stevenson on March 20, 2012 at 6:10pm
I guess that has me puzzled as a 12 x 12 piece of paper has two unusable ends. I will play with it and see if it makes sense and works.

It's one entire border strip - one sided.
Comment by Jane Stevenson on March 20, 2012 at 2:57pm

That is a good tip.  How many strips did it take?  Were they whole strips like the handle?

Comment by Susanna Boyd on March 20, 2012 at 12:32pm
Tip: when you attach the strip to the basket, hide any overlap or shortages in your strip behind your handle.

Susanna, LOL yes you are!!!!!  Thanks for clearing that up.  From the pictures, it isn't clear whether or not it was punched or added.  I did do that as well, but I also think your measurements will make a difference.  Cheers.

Thanks for that Susanna, I thought you had punched the top of the box, I will give it another try with a punched strip, thanks anyway.

Ursula- I just punched a strip and attached it. Didn't even try to match things up.
