Paper Crafting, Rubber Stamping, Scrapbooking, and more

Hi, Lyn here and welcome to another fun 3d challenge!  Today we are altering a binder ring to create a dimensional  embellishment on a card.  The star card is from our Sketch Challenge archives and can be found HERE.  All the papers are from Crate Paper's Random collection.  I have a lot of miscellaneous binder rings in my stash because I love making mini books with them.  If you aren't familiar with what a binder ring is, here's a photo of 3 of them:

They are readily available at office supply stores but are also found through scrapbooking suppliers as well.  Now that you know what I'm working with, all you need is twine, string, jute, sissel, ribbon, raffia, or anything else you can think of to use to wrap around the ring!  I used simple string that is thicker than twine that I found in a home improvement store.  Here's how the ring looks when it is wrapped:Be sure to start wrapping at the hinge and ending at the hinge.  I used a glue dot at the beginning of the wrapping process and tied a simple knot at the end.  I knew I'd be using a glue gun to add my flower embellishment later and would be cutting away the extra tail and hiding the bulky hinge section.

All that is left is to decorate the ring!  Here I added a punched circle of a matching pattern paper behind the ring.  A Prima sentiment 'lucky' and flower along with some turquoise string finished the altered ring!

If you'd like to play along, upload a photo of your altered binder ring to the Paper Craft Planet gallery using the keyword3d173.  That's it now go play!!!!

Thanks Lilian!  This was a total random thought to wrap the binder ring!

What a lovely bright and unusual shaped card. I would never have thought of using a binder ring this way. Love the papers too. Thanks Lyn for sharing this great idea
