GIVEAWAY and Dreamweaver Thursday Tutorial: A Valentine Wallhanging

Hi, Cherylynn here ready to share with you a very, very quick, easy and inexpensive way to make a cute wall hanging just in time for Valentine's Day!

Before we begin, let's give a big shout out to YVONNE WEBER, the winner from the Dreamweaver tutorial two weeks ago. Yvonne left a comment saying she'd love to win the Dangling Hearts stencil so once she emails Pam at phornschu@yahoo.com with her address it will be in the mail to her. For the rest of you, please remember to go to the Stencil with Style site to select the stencil design that you would most like to win, and mention it in your comment below for an opportunity to win two weeks from now.

Okay, now on to today's tutorial. Our project begins with a BRAND NEW stencil that Dreamweaver just introduced at CHA this month, LX 7020 Leafless Tree:

This is a large stencil, almost measuring 6 x 6 so not only is it great for cardmakers, its also great for scrapbooking and home decor projects as well!

Since Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I like to decorate my office area with little reminders of life outside of work, I thought I'd make a little Valentine wall hanging!

This was really so easy to do and quite inexpensive as well.

To begin, you will need the following supplies:

  • LX 7020 Leafless Tree stencil
  • 7x7 piece of scrapbook paper
  • 6 x 6 piece of chipboard
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Sponge or finger dauber
  •  Red and pink cardstock
  • Heart punch
  • Ranger Ink Blending Tool
  • Ranger Walnut Stain Distress Ink
  • Alphabet stamps
  • Black Pigment Ink
  • Black Embossing Powder

First, wrap the scrapbook paper around the chipboard to create your base and distress edges with the Walnut Ink:

Next, place all or part of the tree stencil over the distressed paper and secure with removable tape:

Then using your sponge, pick up small amounts of the black paint and lightly dab it over the stencil until it is covered. Remember, less is more. You always add more paint/ink but it is almost impossible to remove any excess.

Set aside to dry. While the paint is drying, punch out red and pink hearts from your cardstock.

Stamp LOVE using alphabet stamps onto base and emboss with black embossing powder.

Glue hearts onto tree where desired.

Punch holes in the top center, and thread ribbon throw to create hanger.

Voila! I told you it was easy (and inexpensive!) But it makes me smile every time I look at it!

For more inspiration from Dreamweaver Stencils, please follow the Dream It Up! blog, and play along with the monthly challenges for more opportunities to win prizes. Be sure to LIKE us on Facebook as well…there’s always something exciting going on!

Please leave me some love and indicate what stencil you'd like to win if your name is chosen. (Personally, I'd go for the LX 7020 Leafless Tree if it were me!)

Hugs and Happy Love Day to all and to all a Good Life!

This is such an awesome project!  Thanks ever so much for sharing, and for the chance to win one of the great stencils.  The leafless tree would be great to have, but for right now I'm thinking of ways to use LJ 905.  SO HARD to only choose one!

Thanks for sharing such a fun, d0-able project with us.  I love this one!  I have to say my favorite stencil is LX 7012 Waves and Dots.

Love Dreamweaver Stencils.  So hard to choose which one I like best, but I really love the one with two columns!  Great tutorial!

I just love this tree and I also like the idea how it is used.  Thank you.  My choice of course would go to  LX 7020 Leafless Tree.
