Last week, I took a trip to Dallas, Texas to participate in the 2012 Michaels Blogger Event. Michaels invited 15 bloggers from across the country to take part in this event and we spent three days together, crafting, chatting, and checking out all that Michaels has to offer. Today I’m going to share a bit more about my trip. You’ll want to keep reading through this post—there just might be something in it for you at the end . . .
As part of the event, we spent lots of time crafting with Jo Pearson (on the left in photo above), creative expert for Michaels and judge on the TLC show Craft Wars. She and her team prepared several fun projects for us, including a jewelry making activity and a mixed media piece. We also had the chance to hear from Jo about her job as creative expert and about her experiences as a Craft Wars judge--don't those sound like fabulous jobs?

While we were at the blogger event, we were able to walk through the company’s 2012 Holiday Preview show. This exhibition was set up for the Michaels store managers and leadership who were also in Dallas for company meetings. It was filled wall to wall with all of the latest and greatest products that you can find or will be finding soon at your local Michaels. We were able to check out the products and watch demos from famous names such as Tim Holtz, Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes, and for paper crafters/Copic marker fans, Marianne Walker. Here’s a shot of Tim Holtz in action during a tag making demonstration.
We were also able to get a peek at MiDesign@Michaels, an online application that provides the ability to create and personalize all sorts of goodies from photo books, scrapbooks, invitations, and cards to party favors, napkins, and cups. Michaels is offering my readers a 30% discount on this service through August 29 with the code BLOGGER30.
All in all, it was a fabulous opportunity. I really enjoyed getting to know the people behind the scenes at Michaels and all of the other bloggers at the event--everyone was so enthusiastic about crafting and being part of the event. It was also great to learn more about Michaels and the variety of products and services that they have to offer. I’m so appreciative that I had the opportunity to participate.

Since Michaels was so generous with me, I want to pass along some of that generosity to you. I have a box of assorted crafting goodies, including some top-notch Westcott scissors, Martha Stewart and Mod Podge products as well as some items from the different Michaels private brand collections to share with one lucky Paper Craft Planet member. Just leave a comment on this post on the Paper Craft Planet blog telling me your favorite things to shop for at Michaels (or your other local craft store if there aren’t any Michaels stores near you—there are 4 near me that I visit on a pretty regular basis!) and I’ll randomly select a winner on Monday, August 27. Good luck!

I'm new to Paper Craft Planet but not to Michael's;I travel forty-five miles to the nearest one. Monday morning with coupon in hand I set off on a half day journey. Four hours go by really fast when you are in Michael's there are so many things to feast your eyes on however, I'm heading directly to the craft corner to see what is new to inspire me. I look at the paper, stamps, embellishments, and Spellbinders die cuts trying to decide which I need the most, wouldn't you know all of them are necessities? I must have them all!!
Comment by Victoria Banaszak on August 23, 2012 at 11:12pm I love embellishments. My favorite are the pearls. They add so much to your projects. Then of course there are wonderful papers. I love to go in whenever I need inspiration. I feel so rejuvinated whenever I go to a craft store.
Comment by Natasha Marr on August 23, 2012 at 7:00pm It sounds like a dream come true. I'm in the UK and we dont have a Michaels :( but the craft stores that we do have I could (and do) spend hours in, my poor husband has resorted to leaving me in there with my 2 girls and taking my younger boys to the nearby park until we're done... if only I had the room (and money) to have it all, that would just be heavenly xNx
Comment by Lynn in St. Louis on August 23, 2012 at 4:53pm It sounds like a wonderfully fun trip and an experience of a lifetime. So glad you had a great time.
I like to shop at Michaels for Art Journaling, Tim Holtz and K&Co paper.
Comment by Penny crain on August 22, 2012 at 7:26pm Michaels is my favorite craft store. I remarried 2 years ago and my husband and I took a trip through New Mexico and we did not pass a store. He was great and knew I was on a mission. That trip was camo ribbon. Most of the time it is checking out the latest punches and die cuts, love them all. If it is paper I lke it.
