Sigh. It’s Monday once again, and in most parts of the US, kids are back in school, and parents are wondering where summer went to. Sure…it’s hot outside, we’re living in shorts and flip flops, and drinking ice tea, but according to the stores…it’s fall and winter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! For crafters, this is really true. For those who believe in hand creating holiday cards, gifts, wrap, decor, this is when you begin…in August. Or this is when you always say you’ll begin, and rarely do. Here’s a card to put you in the mood to do just that! Break out the Christmas carols, and these supplies:
Dreamweaver Leafless Tree Stencil • Dreamweaver Leafless Tree DIE • Dreamweaver Snow Splatter Stencil • Dreamweaver Comfort Words Stencil • Dreamweaver Glossy Red Embossing Paste • Dreamweaver Double-sided Mounting Paper • Stampendous Multi Ultra Fine Crystal Glitter • Stampendous Ultra Fine Red Jewel Glitter • white and light blue cardstock • vellum • spray adhesive • brad fastener
Step #1: Run blue cardstock panel through embossing/die-cutting machine with the Snow Splatter stencil with this sandwich: base plate, stencil, cardstock, embossing mat, TWO clear plates (to protect the stencil). Note: stencil will not cover entire panel, just cover the top two-thirds.
Step #2: Run white cardstock through embossing/die-cutting machine with the NEW Leafless Tree DIE.
Step #3: Remove die cut from die using either a pin/paper clip, or the new Dreamweaver Die Release Tool through the tiny holes on die meant for this. (Note: Usually if you start at the base of the trunk, you can pull the rest up and away easily.)
Step #4: Cut Mounting Paper measurement to fit bottom half of the card (in this case 4 1/2 X 3 1/2″). Snap and peel carrier from one side to reveal adhesive. (Avoid letting your fingers touch the adhesive as that can transfer oils which will lessen the adhesive power.)
Step #5: Coat the adhesive side completely in crystal glitter. Cut panel into two parts with a wavy cut across the middle.
Step #6: Remove carrier from back of panel, and adhere larger panel to card being careful to place where the line of the Snow Splatter ends on the card.
Step #7: Spray adhesive over back of die cut and adhere to card. (Option: You can also apply the Mounting Paper to the back of the cardstock before die-cutting, but you’ll need a shim to get an exact cut.)
Step #7: Tape off extra words on comfort stencil, and apply red paste through “peace” portion of stencil onto torn vellum. Set aside to dry.
Step #8: Attach vellum piece to blue panel with a brad fastener. (You could spray the back with adhesive so that vellum will lay flat. Spray adhesive will not show through vellum.)
Step #9: Peel carrier from second piece of glittered mounting paper and adhere over card and base of tree as show. Trace bird from Leafless Tree stencil onto red scrap, cut out, apply thin glue and glitter. Adhere to tree branch, and then adhere panel to white card.
Here’s another angle of completed card. This card is fairly easy to make in multiples, just do each step in multiples and assemble conveyor belt style! Perfect card for whatever holidays you do or do not celebrate!
