DREAMWEAVER TUTORIAL THURSDAY AND GIVEAWAY!

Hi and welcome to another Dreamweaver challenge!  I fell in love with this stencil (LJ921) because of its holiday theme and, especially, the heart ornaments.

The interesting element of this card is that I used gesso for the paste! Gesso dries quickly and leaves a lovely dimension.  Gesso is available in any craft store.  If you aren’t familiar with gesso, it is an acrylic primer and is used as a base for paint and other materials that are applied over it.

Once the gesso was dry, I applied Zig 2 Way Glue over the hearts and then sprinkled on an ultra fine glitter.  I used an Amuse Studio sentiment and Hero Arts Wet Cement ink.  Tiny bows were created with silver ‘string’ and affixed.  I cut the panel down to 4″x5-1/4″ and mounted it onto another 4-1/4″x5-1/2″ card with a top fold.

Okay, so I couldn’t stop creating with this lovely stencil and purchased a craft store plain wood frame with a glass insert and painted it white.  I had some Amuse Studio silver washi tape and laid it in three rows at the top right and bottom left corners.

I stenciled the image with Gesso exactly as I did in the card.  It took a bit longer to dry but I loved the result!  Glitter was added to the hearts the same way as for the card.  Miscellaneous holiday trims were hot glued to the bottom corner.

The frame can rest on a shelf with other holiday decorations or by adding hardware can hang on a wall.  Ribbon could be added as another way to hang it as well.  How about a mirror behind the glass, huh?

What a great idea to use gesso, I do have some will have to give it a try.   The framed Christmas branch and ornaments are beautiful!  Staying on the Christmas theme, I would like LM298 Merry Christmas.  Thanks for the tutorial!

Daria - Here's a photo of the gesso I used.  I used a popsicle stick to apply it (I couldn't find my awesome DW stencil spreader thingy!) right over the stencil.  I blobbed on a little pile on the stencil and proceeded to lightly sweep the spreading stick over the design until I was satisfied with the smoothness of the gesso.  The gesso I used is definitely full bodied and not runny like regular acrylic paint and behaved like stencil paste.  Keep me posted with your progress!

These are beautiful!  Love the one you did in the frame.  I would love the LJ902 Black Eyed Susan.

Beautiful cards!

I learned the hard way that Gesso comes in different thicknesses.  I'm not sure if you applied a thicker form with a spatula or if you used a thinner form and stenciled it.  I thought the former since you mentioned dimension, but in describing the second card, you say you stenciled it.  Could you let us know what you used?

The Southwest Background/Angles (LJ807) is on my wish list.

Thank you for sharing this terrific technique.
