Welcome to another Friday Sketch Challenge! Today’s sketch looks like a lightening bolt but it is actually a pattern for a cascading effect. The trick to this cascade is to work in a downward Z-like pattern.
Here’s my finished card and it was really easy to put together!

I used Echo Park This N That Graceful paper collection and I love how everything coordinated. I chose mostly circle punches of different sizes, but I also cut out pre-printed circle shapes as well. All the pieces were sanded to soften the edges. More dimension is achieved by adding buttons, gems, flowers, etc. The little banners on the left can be word strips, washi tape pieces, or sentiments stamped directly onto the card front. Note all the shapes touch which connects the eye to feel the flow of the Z-like cascade. Adding the smaller circles and gem elements really draws the eye to follow the downward pattern!
To create dimension, raise some circles and then raise them again over another circle. Here’s a side angle to show all the dimensional elements.
Here’s a view of the inside of the card as well as another angle of the front dimensional pieces.
I’d love to see what you create! The cascading items can be any shape, all buttons, all flowers, or mix up the shapes! Once you start this card, you’ll see how fun it is to complete. Be sure to upload your card using the tag sk020113 (exactly as typed) for the gallery.
