Paper Crafting, Rubber Stamping, Scrapbooking, and more

Hi everyone!  It's Taylor here today, having a little bit of Monday fun.  I recently got the chance to review the amazing Perfect Layers tool and I thought this would be a great opportunity to share a quick tutorial with it and throw down a fun and easy challenge.  You ready?  Let's get started!

I gathered my supplies:

  • self healing cutting mat
  • craft knife
  • Perfect Layers tools
  • various card stock, patterned paper, ink, and colored image

And here's how I used the Perfect Layers tool for making a card:

  • Colored the image as desired, and cut it out
  • Adhered it to the card stock being used for the mat (no measuring, no cutting - just glue it on there!)
  • Choose how wide the mat should be. The Perfect Layers tools have options from 1/16" to 1". (Here, I chose to use the 1/4" border).
    • The tools are very easy to use - once you decide how wide you'd like your border to be, you simply line up the lip (pictured below) with the edge of your main image and cut down the side with a hobby blade. The edges of the tools are metal.

  • After cutting each side, you are left with a perfect border - no guess work, no measuring, no lining up edges on a traditional paper cutter.

  • To add another layer,  simply adhere the mat and image to another piece of paper.  Note here I chose to place it on an angle; the tool will take care of all the measuring, making it easy to do!

  • The edges of the tools have a plastic lip to place against the edge of your image.

  •  If the patterned paper or card stock is thin the lip may not "grab" the edge of the image.  Should this occur, simply run your finger under the edge of the paper and lift the edge slightly to create some resistance for the tool.

And that's it!!  I'm pretty sure it took me longer to color the fantastically funny image I used than it did to make all the layers I used on my card.  For more details on how to use the Perfect Layers tools, you can check out my tutorial  on Paper Craft Planet today.

And now for the challenge portion of my Monday.  I'd love for you to link up a card, scrapbook page, or other fun project you've made recently - either with the Perfect Layers tool OR just something that has lots of fun layers on it.  So let's see them - the more layers the better! You have until next Monday, January 23 at 12:00 AM to add your link.  We'll select one random winner to receive a $35 gift certificate to Perfect Paper Crafting, so you can get your own set of Perfect Layers  tools or something else from the store!

My sincere thanks to Perfect Paper Crafting for providing me with a Perfect Layers tool for this post :)
